Sitting with Animals | Learning Workshop
Skills for creating calm with a non-intrusive presence.
The Art of Creating Calm - in both mental and body systems of animals
Creating a space of calm for an animal during a stressful situation or chaotic environment is a beautiful skill to develop.
The art of guiding an animal’s body and mind into a space of quiet and calm can help internal organ system - GI tract, immune system, stress responders, and more - also settle and maintain an internal balance.
This workshop is a continuation of our animal massage community exploration of how to better serve animals during stressful situations with body-based and physical medicines. Massage techniques can be safe for pet guardians to apply as well as utilized to significant clinical effect by trained and specialized professionals - using massage as a modality to support animals through stressful situations, is an art and a science.
Utilizing massage as a modality to support animals through stressful situations, is both an art and a science.
This veterinarian-led workshop emphasizes the importance of understanding how chaotic environments pose multiple physical (ex. tripping hazard) and psychological (ex. exacerbation of underlying caninePTSD) risks of harm to animals.
Topics discussed include:
Basics of consent in working with non-humans
The science of touch in non-human mammals
Trauma-informed and trauma-responsive therapeutic touch, and when to refer
Care modalities such as cannabis, essential oils, sound therapy
Hands-on workshop with demo canines and veterinarian-led Q&A
